Outline of the technique Protections of rock slope are only conducted for a limited number of unstable slopes annually depending on the importance and the budget allocation. However, there are still numerous dangerous slopes, which result in being difficult to protect all of the instable slopes. Evaluation of long-term rock stability becomes thus an urgent and important issue to secure infrastructures including public traffic and residential district surrounding the slope. Rock failure is known as a transient failure process, whereas there might be a deformation process in which micro-scale fracture develops macro-scale fracture. Acoustic emission (AE) is a technique providing crucial information on a variety of fracture behavior as elastic waves, generated due to the deformation. Tobishima developed a prospective method to install AE sensors into the rock slope named WEAD. The AE data obtained through WEAD is followed to evaluate with the TAMS software package, also developed for evaluating long-term AE data. With WEAD & TAMS, now long-term behavior of rock slope can be readily evaluated.![]() Behavior of WEAD under deformation of rock ![]() Reasonable evaluation for detected AE signals is possible in combination with laboratory experiments ![]() TAMS (Tobishima AE data Management System) Brochures are available: For WEAD (PDF) For TAMS (PDF) |
